AIZAWL: Voters in Rengkashya constituency of Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) exercised their franchise on Wednesday with ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) candidate Prema Ranjan Chakma being released on bail on Tuesday.
Prema was arrested along with three others over the death of BJP nominee Amit Kumar Chakma in a clash between MNF and BJP workers on May 4. Election to the Rengkashya seat was countermanded by the state election commission due to Amit's death in poll-related violence, the first ever in the political history of Mizoram.
The candidates now in the fray for the poll in Rengkashya seat are Sukrity Chakma of BJP, Doymoy Daveng Chakma of Congress and Prema Ranjan Chakma of the MNF.
Polling began at 7 am with 1,411 voters exercising their franchise at three polling stations. Polling ended at 5 pm.
