CHENNAI: Southern Railway will install 528 CCTV cameras at 26 railway stations in Chennai at a cost of Rs 9.79 crore under the Nirbhaya Fund scheme to enhance passenger safety.
The tenders have been finalised and the work will be carried out in phases.
Under phase 1, the following stations will get CCTV cameras.
Chintadripet, Chennai Fort, Chepauk, Chennai Park, Tiruvallikeni, Park Town, Chennai Light House, Chetpet, Mandaveli, Kodambakkam, Greenways Road, Saidapet, Kotturpuram, Guindy, Kasthuribai Nagar, Meenambakkam, Indira Nagar, Tirusulam, Thiruvanmiyur, Pallavaram, Taramani, Chrompet, Perungudi, Tambaram Sanatorium, Velachery and Melmaruvathur.
Under phase 2 and 3, tenders have already been floated for installing CCTV cameras at 50 railway stations in Arakkonam and Gudur sections.
