VADODARA: Addressing the inaugural session of a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) camp in the city as the chief guest has landed veteran Congress members and former city unit Congress president Suresh Patel in trouble. Patel was suspended by the party soon after the event. However, the suspension was made public on Wednesday.
The RSS ‘Sangh Shiksha Varg’ (training camp) began on May 8 in which RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat remained present. Patel was the chief guest there. He had said at that time that this was because of the social work done by him and also because a party plot owned by him was also being used for the camp beside a prominent school.
Patel attending the event as a chief guest had surprised many.
He had however defended his act saying that the event was not political in nature and was directed towards nation building. Patel’s family has been with the Congress for three generations.
On Wednesday Patel claimed that while the letter being circulated in the media had the date of May 9, he was yet to receive it. “Also, no clarification has been sought from me so far and nobody from the party has spoken to me about the event,” he said.
