Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is supplying over 300 tankers of water per day to more than 250 locations, as demand has elevated during the summer months.
Additional municipal commissioner, Kunwar Singh Pahan, said, "The procedure of adding steel tankers is currently underway and will be completed within one week. This year, the number of available tankers will be doubled. In addition, we will rent tankers if required. However, we are attempting to deliver tankers to all those areas where we receive complaints from and where they are needed."
Generally, the demand for water is only 70 tankers per day, but during the summer, the demand increases to 350 daily. Even this threefold rise is insufficient to meet the demand.
Arid areas such as Hindpiri, Ratu Road, Madhukam, Azad Hind Nagar, Mousibadi, Harmu, Kishoreganj and Swarna Jayanti Nagar are experiencing severe water crisis.
Each tanker contains around 4,000 litres of water, while some contain 8,000 litres. Majority of them are delivered to district wards such as 25, 34, 26, 28, and 26 where water scarcity is a significant issue.
According to an RMC official, 90% of wild boars in these regions have succumbed as a result of the summer heat, and dried up wells.
Binod Kumar Singh, ward councillor of 34, said, “A large number of households in the areas lack access to a water source with wells and boreholes been dried up.”
Ward councillor of 36, Sabita Junkie said, "We receive only one water tanker which provides water to eight to nine locations on alternate days. We are making every effort to acquire additional tankers."
