- Jynneos, a vaccine from Bavarian Nordic (OTCPK:BVNKF)(OTCPK:BVNRY) for monkeypox and smallpox, has better efficacy for monkeypox if given as two shots instead of one.
- Just over 900 participants were included in a case-control study analysis. Data published in the MMWR found that those who received one Jynneos jab had adjusted vaccine effectiveness of 75% compared to 86% for two shots.
- As of March 31, 2023, the CDC said that more than 30K monkeypox cases have been reported in the US.
- The researchers noted that more research is needed to determine the duration of protection from the vaccine, adding that monkeypox vaccination among those most at risk remains low.
- A CDC alert sent to doctors on Monday warned there could be a resurgence of monkeypox over the spring and summer due to gatherings.
