Actor and foodie, Stanley Tucci had good news to share in Dublin today when he confirmed that a new series of his Emmy winning culinary show, Searching for Italy, is back on the cards again.
The travel and food show was a major international hit on CNN during the pandemic and it followed the The Devil Wears Prada, The Hunger Games and Big Night star as he travelled around Italy visiting each region and exploring their cultures, cuisine and history.
The show Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy won two Emmy awards - the equivalent of the Oscars for television - for 'Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series' for the CNN programme in 2021 and 2022.
However, despite its critical success, the show was cancelled after two seasons leaving the disappointed the actor and presenter looking for new network.
In Dublin today, Mr Tucci confirmed "yes, we are negotiating now with another network so the hope is, within the next couple of weeks to a month, we’ll know where it’s going to end up and I’m excited about it. We’ll do it again.” Mr Tucci explained “it’s a little complicated because the writers’ strike is throwing a wrench into everybody’s schedules, but it’s something we could possibly do in the fall. It’s something we most likely will end up doing next year. “We’re trying to figure it out. There are a few more territories to go to, a few more regions to go to so I think we are going to do that and then we are going to see how we can do a few more episodes, either revisiting some places and maybe new stories in those places or revisiting some of the people that we met already.”
An actor and film maker, Mr Tucci is of Calabrian descent and during the pandemic, he became a mixology sensation on social media after posting a video of how he made the perfect Negroni cocktail at his London home and the video went viral.
After starting in Naples and the Amalfi Coast in Spring 2021, the show finished last Autumn with a final episode in shot in Liguria.
Mr Tucci was in Dublin today to host a Tanqueray no.TEN evening in his capacity as global brand partner with the gin which is part of the Diageo family of brands.
This is his third visit to Dublin and he will be attending the International Literature Festival in Merrion Square on Saturday.
His dining plans included having dinner cooked for him by Irish chef Mark Moriarty and with his Italian roots, there could be a visit to an Italian-Irish chipper.
Mr Tucci said he had plans to meet a friend tomorrow and his wife, Felicity would be joining him in Ireland.
He and his wife Felicity have two children. They met after he worked with her sister, actress Emily Blunt in The Devil Wears Prada, and Stanley attended Emily’s marriage to fellow actor, John Krasinski.
So what’s next for the actor?
“I was supposed to go do the second season of Citadel which is this television show that came out on Amazon a few weeks ago but we’re just not sure when that is going to happen due to the writer's strike, so everything's kind of up in the air right now so we’ll see.
Stanley Tucci has enjoyed literary success with his book Taste: My Life Through Food, a memoir about life in and out of the kitchen which also chronicled his treatment for a tumour at the base of his tongue, during which he could not eat.
In Dublin he explained how he is back writing again.
“I’m writing another book and I’ve written a play so the hope is that during this downtime, I’ll be able to play around with those things. The play is about people not being able to connect properly."
