COIMBATORE: Coimbatore Corporation commissioner M Prathap has served show-cause notices to two assistant engineers and one assistant executive engineer for irregularities in laying roads under the TURIF fund.
TOI on May 3 carried an article exposing the irregularities, forcing the corporation to conduct an internal check.
The city corporation supposed to lay 17 roads in old ward numbers 38, 39, 40 and 44 at the cost of Rs 1.82 crore. But out of 17 roads only nine roads were laid in places where they had been approved. Residents of the area to whom the roads were allocated stated that they did not get any roads in the said period.
While officials have claimed that the remaining roads were laid in unapproved places, an investigation by engineers from the municipal administration department has been recommended to check the claims since the roads are in damaged state now.
The corporation commissioner has admitted that laying roads elsewhere without getting deviation orders is a serious violation.
The corporation sent show-cause notices to engineers in-charge of work at the time.
Corporation commissioner told TOI that notices have been sent to three engineering officials a week ago. Their explanation is awaited. They should give them in 15 days. Based on the explanations given by them appropriate action will be taken against them.
Although he refrained from naming the officials to whom notices have been served, he assured that strict action would be taken against wrongdoers.
