A court in Pune Thursday sought the full transcript of a speech by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and a copy of V D Savarkar’s autobiography ‘Majhi Janmathep’ to verify a plea by Satyaki Savarkar, the grand-nephew of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.

Satyaki has filed a criminal defamation application against Gandhi before the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Akshi Jain for his alleged false and malicious claims about Savarkar during a function held in London.

Satyaki, in his plea through his lawyer Sangram Kolhatkar said, “The accused, for reasons best known to him, has been repeatedly defaming and abusing Late Vinayak Damodar Savarkar in various occasions for over many years…He has intentionally made false, malicious and wild allegations against Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, fully knowing the said allegations to be untrue, with the specific objective of harming the reputation and to defame the surname Savarkar.”

The plea added, “The accused has deliberately uttered these words and sentences which were hurtful to the feelings of his family members and near relatives, followers of Late Savarkar and also would spark communal spark between two religions.”
