Delhi government has sought the approval of the central government to appoint PK Singh as the new chief secretary of the Union Territory

Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government has sought the approval of the central government to appoint the 1989 batch IAS officer PK Gupta as the new chief secretary of Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has sent the proposal for the appointment of PK Gupta to the LG VK Saxena for concurrence of the Centre  The current chief secretary Naresh Kumar was appointed to his post in 2022 and is due to retire later this year. 

PK Gupta holds the charge as the additional chief secretary at the General Administration Department of the Delhi government.

The state government has also removed Ashish More as the Services secretary and issued a show cause notice against the bureaucrat. The Arvind Kejriwal-led government has also threatened disciplinary action against the officer for not complying with the instructions of Services Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj.

Delhi's Civil Services Board (CSB) on Wednesday also cleared the file for the appointment of AK Singh as the Services secretary and the file for Singh's appointment has been sent to the Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena for his approval.

Recently, a Supreme Court bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud ruled that the control of bureaucrats working in the Delhi government(excluding the officers working in public order, land, and police departments) will be in the hands of the elected government.

The supreme court bench said, “It is the responsibility of the government of NCTD to give expression to the will of the people of Delhi who elected it. Therefore, the ideal conclusion would be that GNCTD ought to have control over “services", subject to the exclusion of subjects which are out of its legislative domain."
