Berhampur: Several tribal women in Kandhamal district’s Phiringia block were trained in the preparation of different food items from mahua flowers, which they usually collect from the forests during summer.
The daylong training-cum-demonstration was held at Padarigada under Tala Dandikia village on Tuesday by the district administration, where around 40 women of 20 self-help groups (SHG) attended. Five tribal women of the area who have already been trained in preparation of different food items from mahua flowers from Maharashtra two months ago, imparted training to others, as master trainers. Besides, they also demonstrated how the food items are prepared.
“We are also exploring the possibilities of finding a market for their mahua flower products through different government and private agencies,” said Kandhamal collector Ashish Ishwar Patil.TNN
