Union Cabinet reshuffle: Arjun Ram Meghwal replaces Kiren Rijiju as Union Law Minister
Arjun Ram Meghwal has replaced Kiren Rijiju as the law minister.
NEW DELHI: In a major Union cabinet reshuffle, Arjun Ram Meghwal was on Thursday appointed the new law minister. Kiren Rijiju, who lost the ministry, has now been assigned the portfolio of ministry of earth sciences.
President Droupadi Murmu, as advised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has reallocated portfolios among ministers in the Union council of ministers, a statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan said.
Meghwal, minister of state, has been assigned the independent charge as minister of state in the ministry of law and justice in addition to his existing portfolios. He is currently the minister of state for parliamentary affairs and the minister of state for culture.
Soon after the reshuffle, Rijiju thanked CJI DY Chandrachud, Supreme Court judges and other judges for the huge support in ensuring delivering ease of justice. The minister also mentioned in the tweet that he looks forward to fulfilling the vision of PM Modi in the earth sciences ministry with the same zeal and vigour.

Union minister Jitendra Singh was holding charge of the ministry of earth sciences.
This development comes amid tussle over the SC collegium system. Rijiju had said the collegium system of appointing judges was 'opaque and not transparent'. He had taken over as the law and justice minister on July 8, 2021.
