NEW DELHI: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd on Wednesday unveiled a Rs 49,000 crore plan to raise Bina refinery capacity, build an ethylene cracker unit for expanding footprint in petrochemicals and add 100 MW of renewable energy capacity.
The refinery capacity is to be raised from 7.8 mtpa (million tonnes per annum) to 11 mtpa along with associated facilities. The ethylene cracker project includes downstream petrochemical units as well as expansion of existing facilities.
The company will set up two wind power plants in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra with 50 MW capacity each for captive consumption at Bina and Mumbai refineries.
Bina refinery expansion will meet the growing demand of petroleum products in central and northern India, also providing necessary feedstock to the ethylene cracker complex. The petrochemical plant will cater to the growing domestic demand for petrochemical products.
