Karnataka CM Race: Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah will be the next chief minister of Karnataka and DK Shivkumar will be his deputy, according to the reports. The Congress party has reached the decision with the two leaders agreeing to a rotational formula. Siddaramaiah will be the CM for a period of 2.5 years. After which, Shivakumar will be takeover as the CM. The swearing-in ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 20, 2023.

The Congress on Wednesday hit out at the BJP for criticising it over the delay in deciding the chief minister of Karnataka, and cited examples when the saffron party declared its chief ministers in Uttar Pradesh, Goa and Assam several days after winning the polls.
In the May 10 elections to the 224-member Assembly, the Congress scored an emphatic victory by bagging 135 seats, while the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the former prime minister H D Deve Gowda-led Janata Dal (Secular) secured 66 and 19 seats respectively.
A Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting has been called by the party's state unit chief D K Shivakumar here on Thursday evening.

Preparations were underway at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium for the swearing-in ceremony. Officials were seen inspecting the venue at the heart of Bengaluru on Wednesday afternoon. Police personnel also conducted inspections at the Stadium today. The venue gains additional significance as the site of a 2013 oath-taking ceremony where Siddaramaiah assumed the mantle of Chief Minister for the first time.
Before Congress finalized the names of the Karnataka CM and deputy CM, the Bharatiya Janata Party took a jibe at the grand old party for being unable to pick the Chief Minister despite four days of getting the mandate.
"Delay in deciding the CM despite getting a full majority shows a lack of unity in the party. The Congress Party must stop playing politics, select a new CM and serve the people by forming the government", Bommai said.
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President DK Shivakumar, who won from Kanakapura constituency in the Karnataka Assembly Elections defeating Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) state minister R Ashoka, has been designated the chief minister of Karnataka by the Congress High Command.
Siddaramaiah represented the Chamundeshwari constituency in Mysuru in the Karnataka assembly five times - in 1983 as an Independent, in 1985 on a Janata Party ticket, in 1994 and 2004 for the Janata Dal, and in 2006 for the Congress by a lean margin of 257 votes.
Hectic parleys were held on Wednesday to break the deadlock in deciding on the Congress' chief ministerial pick in Karnataka with both the hopefuls Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar presenting their cases before the top brass.
Amid the Opposition efforts to forge an alliance in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, JD(U) leader KC Tyagi on Tuesday said that in states where the Congress is stronger, the other parties should help it and the latter should also respond in the same way.
Speaking with ANI, Tyagi cautioned that no party should name any prime ministerial candidate for the 2024 polls. "It will create a rift within the opposition alliance".
The oath-taking ceremony will be held in Bengaluru on 20th May.
The grand old party has called a Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting in Bengaluru on Thursday at 7 pm.
