MU: UUCMS glitch crops up again
Mangaluru: Though Mangalore University (MU) started the admission process for undergraduate courses around two weeks ago, it is not able to complete the entire process, as it is again affected by glitches in the Unified University and College Management System (UUCMS).
The UUCMS was introduced a year ago, and the entire manual admission process was shifted online. However, colleges complain that the UUCMS portal has not yet been opened for admissions. Meanwhile, college affiliation, which has also moved to UUCMS this year, has also been delayed due to a glitch. Last academic year, educational institutions had a harrowing time with admissions and result announcements, due to unending technical issues.
College managements stated that since the UUCMS portal is not opened yet, they are carrying out manual admissions at the moment. “Mangalore University has directed us in an official circular, to start the admission process two weeks ago. However, so far, the actual admission which was supposed to take place through UUCMS, has not happened since the portal is not open. At the moment, admissions are done manually. Why should MU hurry and give additional work to the teaching fraternity, when the system is not rectified?” criticised a principal of a government first-grade college.
For the first time, the college affiliation process has been entirely moved to UUCMS this academic year. “This affiliation process too has been marred by glitches. The colleges are unable to complete it, and it has been pending for many days. Without completion of affiliation, colleges cannot proceed with their admissions,” complained a principal of another college.
Portal is yet to open: Registrar
Kishore Kumar CK, registrar, Mangalore University, maintained that so far the government has not opened the UUCMS portal for the online admission process. It will be done in a few days, and colleges are asked to do the admission process manually. “We are raising a request to open UUCMS for admissions,” he said.
Kumar agreed that there is a delay in the college affiliation process, due to a snag in the UUCMS. “The college affiliation process, which includes course approval, and seat intake for each course, is delayed due to a glitch, which is almost solved. It will be an issue for those who apply for affiliation for the first time,” said Kumar, adding that MU is considering starting first-semester classes at the earliest.
