COIMBATORE: A postgraduate student from
Rajasthan died on Wednesday after he was attacked by a wild elephant while he was walking on the Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History campus in Coimbatore district of
Tamil Nadu on Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Vishal Shrimal, 23. He was studying in a postgraduate course in wildlife science in a university in Rajasthan. He recently came to Salim Ali Centre for dissertation work.
Vishal was walking on the campus of the premier institute located at Anaikatti on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border on Tuesday night. A lone elephant trampled him around 8.30 pm. He suffered grievous injuries on his chest and right leg and was rushed to a hospital in Kottathara in Palakkad district in Kerala. He was referred to a private hospital in Coimbatore where he died on Wednesday morning.
The institute is located in the middle of the forest. It comes under Anaikatti South reserve forest in Thudiyalur section of Coimbatore forest range.
