Nagpur: After NCP, Congress too targeted the BJP-Shiv Sena government over clean chit given to former Mumbai commissioner Parambir Singh.
MPCC chief Nana Patole on Tuesday accused the BJP-led governments at Centre and state of conspiring against the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government led by ex-CM Uddhav Thackray, and defaming it with the help of a former top cop.
“Singh’s reinstatement has exposed conspiracy to defame the MVA government by plotting the Antilia explosives plan, and falsely accusing our ministers in the ₹100 crore extortion case. It also proves that Singh was a puppet of deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis. The BJP-Sena government rewarded Singh by dropping all charges of corruption and extortion against him without following the legal process,” Patole said.
Adding that parking of car laden with explosives near Antilia, the residence of Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, and accusing former home minister Anil Deshmukh of extorting ₹100 crore was a part of plan to destabilize the three-party coalition government, Patole said that he had consistently raised the issue in the assembly that Fadnavis was behind the conspiracy.
Patole said that Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla had told him about receiving files regarding Singh’s corrupt activities. Birla had forwarded these files to the Prime Minister Office (PMO) and the then CM Thackeray's office, Patole added.
“Later, I asked Singh about the corruption charges, he replied that it was a common practice in the police department. It proves that the BJP government at the Centre did not even conduct a probe against Singh, despite PMO and LS speaker knowing about the corruption charges,” Patole said.
Elaborating on the order of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) to cancel the former top cop’s suspension, the MPCC president said that the Bombay high court had directed the CBI to investigate charges against him and file a chargesheet.
“Even the government was told to conduct a departmental inquiry against him. It was also told to review his suspension every three months and extend it. The government led by CM Eknath Shinde and Fadnavis did nothing, which directly helped Singh to get relief from CAT,” Patole said.
