A Rural Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) unit is providing jobs to hundreds of youths in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir. It was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a part of the India BPO Promotion Scheme (IBPS) to provide employment to around 1.5 lakh people in the country, particularly in rural areas. The centre is equipped with modern infrastructure and has been instrumental in the government’s ‘Digital India’ campaign, which aims to provide digital infrastructure to every citizen of the country. This centre became a game-changer for the local youth by enabling them to work from their hometowns. 750 youths have been trained under the centre and the capacity of the centre is around 150. The trainees lauded the step taken by the Jammu and Kashmir administration as this centre is not only empowering the youths in the IT sector but also providing them employment in their home district.
