Karnataka CM race: Siddaramaiah outranks Shivakumar, contenders likely to meet Rahul Gandhi today

Siddaramaiah who has already held an experience of running a full term government in the state is most likely to be the next chief minister of Karnataka leaving behind DK Shivakumar in the race, reports claimed.

After three days of the results declaration, Karnataka is now avid on who will be their next Chief Minister.

As Congess received a thumping victory on last Saturday, it is now frazzled over taking the decision on whom it should it crown the chief minister of the southern state.

Former chief minister Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president DK Shivakumar are in the race for the chief minster’s post.

Siddaramaiah who has already held an experience of running a full term government in the state is most likely to be the next chief minister of Karnataka leaving behind DK Shivakumar in the race, reports claimed.

Shivakumar who arrived in Delhi on Tuesday to meet the the Congress high command for discussion over the top post is likely to meet Rahul Gandhi today.

Shivakumar yesterday held a meeting with party president Mallikarjun Kharge, where both the leaders held a discussion for almost half an hour.

In the meanwhile, Siddaramaiah who landed at the capital on Monday, has held meetings with Kharge and other senior party leadership.

After DKS, Siddaramaiah is also likely to meet former party chief Rahul Gandhi for the discussions.

Mallikarjun Kharge, who has the responsibility of picking the next leader of the state has been holding a series meetings and discussions with senior leaders of the party, central appointed observers of the party, front-runners in the race and the newly elected MLAs.

On Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi also drove to Kharge’s residence in Delhi, where he held a meeting with the party chief for more than an hour discussing about the solving the matter as soon as possible wishing for a final conclusion, said reports.

Reports also claimed, the party leadership pitched a power sharing pact to both Siddaramaiah and DKS, to which Shivakumar refused.

The Congress won with a huge mandate winning 135 seats that secured him 42% in the vote share, while BJP won 66 seats and JD(S) managed to win 19 seats.

On Tuesday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD Supremo Lalu Yadav slammed self-proclaimed god-man Dhirendra Shastri alias Baba Bageshwar for his alleged remark on Bihar.

CM Kumar said, the constitution came into existence after the fight for freedom struggle and he asked all those who saying about Hindu rashtra, were they born during the freedom struggle?

Kumar further said there is no need of saying such things and asked to follow any religion, one has to as per his/her wish.

He further added that in his state Bihar, his government ensures every individual gets the right to worship any religion and follow it as per hi/her own choice and no one should interfere in each other’s faith. Referring to Shastri’s comments he said it has no value.

Former chief minister and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav also hit out at Baba Bageshwar, asking who is Baba Bageshwar and also asked is he even a Baba.

Dhirendra Shastri who is Patna, Bihar for a Hanuman Katha being held in the Naubat area, reportedly made remarks on making India a Hindu rashtra and also allegedly said that Bihar will ignite the fire of Hindu rashtra.

Shastri is the head-priest of a pilgrimage site Bageshwar Dham, located in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh. He has been in circles for almost an year now, people and his followers call him Bageshwar Dham Sarkar.

Tej Pratap Yadav, Lalu’s elder son and Bihar minister also slammed Shastri saying he does not recognize any such Baba and only knows about Devraha Baba and said his birth was because of his blessings only.

Yadav claimed that Shastri is abusing the people of Bihar and calling them mad. He further added that there’s Krishna Raj and Mahagathbandhan Raj(referring to the alliance government of JD(U), RJD and Congress in the state) in Bihar.

On Monday, BJP leader Ram Kripal Yadav accused Nitish Kumar government of mismanagement as hundreds of devotees fell sick at Divya Darbar program of Dhirendra Shastri, that was organized in Patna.

The Indian Air Force’s C-17 Globemaster aircraft got stuck at Leh airport on the runway on Tuesday.

Reports said the heavy-lifter aircraft was facing technical issues after it landed at the Leh airport this morning. The incident led to the cancellations of all domestic flights including Air India, SpiceJet, Vistara, and IndiGo. Notably, these domestic flights operate 10 flights to Leh each day.

In a tweet, Vistara updated its passengers travelling from Delhi to Leh and said its flight UK601 was returned to Delhi airport given the runway restrictions at Leh and is expected to arrive in Delhi at 10 am.

Rahul Gandhi meets Mallikarjun Kharge

As the tensions within Congress continues to grow over the selection of next chief minister of Karnataka, former party president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday afternoon met current party chief Mallikarjun Kharge to discuss the government formation in the state.

Gandhi drove to Kharge’s residence in Delhi and held a closed-door meeting with him for almost one and half hour.

The meeting was also attended by Congress general secretary and Karnataka party affair’s in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala and general secretary (organization) KC Venugopal.

Reports claim, the meeting of Gandhi with Kharge was to discuss about the formation of government in Karnataka and pick a new chief minister of the state as Congress is dwindling to take a decision between Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar.

Reports also said Rahul Gandhi wants to ensure no political drama over the formation of government and want no disagreements on the decision of the party that would be finalized and the leader wants a decision to be taken as soon as possible.

Kharge who has been holding a series of meetings with leaders of the party, center appointed observers for Karnataka and other senior party officials, holds the power to choose the fate of both the leaders (Siddaramaiah and DKS) in fray for the CM post.

Congress’s Karnataka unit chief Shivakumar who has arrived in Delhi today in the afternoon, is expected to meet Kharge and other senior leadership of the party to discuss the appointmnet of chief minister.

Shivakumar after landing at the capital airport went to his brother DK Suresh’s residence, who is a Lok Sabha MP.

Former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah is also in Delhi, who arrived on Monday.

The Congress which received a huge mandate with a thumping victory in the Karnataka assembly elections has been in deep water as it has to decide between Siddaramaiah, a leader having prior experience of running the state as a CM and Shivakumar, known to be the war horse of the party.
