UP govt announces 4% DA hike for state employees, pensioners

The Uttar Pradesh government has raised the dearness allowance from 38% to 42% with effect from January 1. The announcement will affect around 27.35 lakh people.
The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a 4% hike in Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief for state employees and pensioners. The change in policy will apply from January 1 this year. With this, the DA has gone from 38% to 42% and will affect around 27.35 lakh people.
“In the larger interest of 16.35 lakh state employees and 11 lakh pensioners serving in the Uttar Pradesh government, the state government has decided to increase the rate of dearness allowance and dearness relief by 4% from 38% to 42% with effect from January 01, 2023. Has been taken," tweeted Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
A similar announcement was also made by the Tamil Nadu government, with Chief Minister MK Stalin hiking DA by 4% for state government employees. It will come into effect retrospectively from the start of the financial year in April.
The move, which would entail an additional expenditure of ₹2,366.82 crore annually to the exchequer and benefit 16 lakh government employees, teachers, pensioners and those receiving family pension. Here too the DA rose from 38% to 42%.
