NAGPUR: A petrol pump owner was murdered and another employee was injured when armed robbers targeted a fuel station in Bhiwapur town of Maharashtra’s Nagpur district on Wednesday morning.
The assailants swiftly seized the cash on the premises before making a speedy escape.
According to Nagpur (rural) police, the incident took place at Patil petrol pump located on the highway in Bhiwapur.
The deceased has been identified as Dilip Rajeshwar Sontakke, a 55-year-old resident of Kolari Sathgaon in Bhiwapur tehsil.
The injured employee, Nanhe, is currently receiving medical treatment at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Nagpur, police said.
“Sontakke and Nanhe were engaged in counting the money inside the cabin at around 10am when the robbers forcibly entered the premises. The robbers, travelling on a motorcycle with three riders, swiftly infiltrated the cabin. In a shocking turn of events, they fired a warning shot into the air before attacking Sontakke with sharp weapons. Subsequently, they forcefully snatched the cash from their victims' grasp. When Nanhe rushed to assist Sontakke, he too was stabbed by the assailants, as reported by the police. However, the robbers did not employ the pistol they possessed during the attack,” they added.
Upon receiving the report, a police team from Bhivapur police station arrived at the spot. The police cordoned off the surrounding area in the district and the city.
Bhiwapur police have registered a case against the robbers under various sections, including robbery, murder, and attempted murder. They have initiated a rigorous search operation to apprehend the perpetrators.
