PATNA: People across the state are eagerly waiting for a respite from the scorching heat conditions as the Patna Meteorological Centre has issued a forecast for rainfall at isolated places during this week.
The Met office on Tuesday issued a yellow warning for thunderstorm activities in many places of the state for four days.
A yellow warning for thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40kmph has been issued for isolated places in the northern districts, including West and East Champaran, Madhubani, Gopalganj, Siwan, and Saran on Wednesday. This will be followed by similar weather activities on Thursday, with gusty winds of 40-50kmph expected at isolated places across several districts, including Patna, Jehanabad, Gaya, and Nalanda, apart from the northern districts. On Friday, isolated rain is expected in Madhubani, Darbhanga districts. Additionally, thunderstorm and lightning activities have been forecast for north-east Bihar on May 20.
The day temperature in north Bihar is expected to decrease by 2-3 degrees C on Wednesday, while in some southern districts, it may rise by 1-3 degrees C on Wednesday before eventually dropping by 2-4 degrees C.
Anand Shankar, a scientist at the Patna Meteorological Centre, said, "The surface winds over the state are likely to gust up from 15-20kmph to 30-40kmph till Thursday. This weather pattern is attributed to a trough that runs from north Bihar to central Chhattisgarh."
"Farmers should take precautions for their harvested crops during the coming days due to the increased moisture content in the air," Shankar added.
According to Patna Meteorological Centre's evening bulletin, Sheikhpura recorded the highest maximum temperature of 42.8 degrees C on Tuesday, closely followed by Nawada and Aurangabad (42.7 degrees C). Patna saw a maximum temperature of 40.5 degrees C.
"In the next four days, the weather in Patna is likely to be moderate, with chances of thunderstorm activities on Thursday and Friday," said Shankar.
