No relief as Met dept says temp to rise this week
Even as the searing summer heat continues to scorch Goa, there seems to be no respite forthcoming. The India meteorological department (IMD) has forecast hot and humid conditions till Friday, and the maximum temperature will be around 35-37 degrees C.
PANAJI: Even as the searing summer heat continues to scorch Goa, there seems to be no respite forthcoming. The India meteorological department (IMD) has forecast hot and humid conditions till Friday, and the maximum temperature will be around 35-37 degrees C.
On Tuesday, the state saw dry weather, with the IMD recording a maximum of 36 degrees C. However, despite the rise in maximum temperature, IMD hasn’t issued a heat wave warning.
The IMD has issued heat wave warnings for isolated pockets in Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and coastal Andhra Pradesh. The IMD has also warned that maximum temperatures are very likely to rise by 2-3°C over many parts of Maharashtra from Wednesday.
The only relief in sight is when the monsoon progresses northward. The IMD has said that the southwest monsoon will hit Kerala on June 4 with a model error of four days.
Its normal date for onset over Kerala is June 1, and for Goa, June 5. The advance of the southwest monsoon over the Indian mainland is marked by its onset over Kerala, and is an important indicator characterising the transition from the hot and dry season to the rainy season.
