Government extends deadline for bid submission in eighth round of oilfield auctions to July 5

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) reiterated its plea to the Supreme Court for six more months to investigate US short-seller Hindenburg Research’s allegations against the Adani Group, saying adequate time is required to ensure justice.

The government may set up a panel to draw up a fresh list of public sector banks that can be privatised, people aware of deliberations said. The Centre wants to revisit its bank privatisation strategy after state-owned lenders turned profitable and several rounds of consolidation have reduced their number.

The government is set to approve the chip-making plan of the Vedanta-Foxconn joint venture under the $10-billion India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), senior government officials told ET. This will pave the way for the Centre’s bid to establish India as a global hub for semiconductors.
