Cortalim Villagers Social Welfare Association displayed resilience and skill to claim a thrilling 2-1 victory over Salgaocar FC Juniors in the Goa Football Association 1st Division League at the Nagoa ground, on Wednesday.
Salgaocar FC Juniors made an impressive start, taking the lead in the 8th minute with a goal by the talented Harshad Madkaiar. The early strike provided a boost of confidence to Salgaocar, putting them in control of the game. However, Cortalim Villagers quickly regrouped and launched a spirited comeback.
In the 15th minute, Cyril Dias, the standout player for Cortalim, showcased his prowess by finding the back of the net, restoring parity for his team. The goal injected a new sense of energy into Cortalim’s gameplay, lifting their spirits and igniting the hopes of their passionate supporters.
As the first half progressed, Cyril Dias proved to be unstoppable. With remarkable skill and precision, he completed his brace in the 30th minute, giving Cortalim Villagers a well-deserved lead of 2-1 heading into the break.
The second half witnessed an intense battle between the two sides. Salgaocar FC Juniors, determined to level the score, launched numerous attacks, testing the resilience of Cortalim’s defense. The defenders, displaying exceptional coordination and tactical awareness, thwarted every attempt by Salgaocar to find the equalizer. Cortalim, on the other hand, sought to extend their lead with quick counter-attacks and strategic ball possession.
As the final whistle approached, tension filled the air, with both teams pushing themselves to the limit. Salgaocar FC Juniors fought relentlessly in search of an equalizing goal, but Cortalim Villagers defended with unwavering determination. The final score stood at 2-1 in favor of Cortalim Villagers, sealing their remarkable victory. In another match at Ella ground, Nuvem SC defeated Dempo SC Juniors by a solitary goal.
