After receiving directions from Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the Pune police traced and stopped a debt-ridden businessman from taking his life Tuesday. The police said the man, 34, who is a resident of the Dattawadi area in Pune, owns a business supplying materials for interior design.
They added the man was in depression as he was unable to return a loan of over Rs 1 crore. According to the police, the businessman had left a message for his friends on social media that he would die by suicide which reached Fadnavis, who was in Pune on Tuesday, through another person.
Fadnavis then asked Pune police Commissioner Retesh Kumaarr to look into the matter, the police said. Soon, Amol Zende, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), directed the cyber police station to confirm the location of the businessman.
After getting information about his location, a team from the Dattawadi police station and crime branch contacted the businessman. “We spoke to the businessman and counselled him,” said Senior Police Inspector Jayram Paygude of the Dattawadi police station.
According to the police, the businessman lives with his family comprising his wife, son, and mother. The police spoke to the family members and the businessman changed his mind, they added.
