Sourav Ganguly's security cover has been upgraded to Z category. Here is what changes.
The West Bengal government has recently announced its decision to upgrade the security cover for former Indian cricket team captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly to the esteemed Z category, according to a senior official. This development comes following the conclusion of Ganguly's previous security arrangement under the Y category.
The official stated that, once the security cover for the VVIP had expired, a comprehensive evaluation was carried out in accordance with established procedures. This assessment ultimately resulted in the determination to enhance the former India skipper’s security arrangement to the esteemed Z category.
On May 16, representatives from the state secretariat convened a meeting at Ganguly's Behala office, engaging with officers from Kolkata Police headquarters Lalbazar as well as the local police station, to discuss the security protocol, the official added.
Here is what changes
Under the enhanced security arrangement, Ganguly will be provided protection by a team of 8 to 10 police personnel, ensuring his safety and well-being, the official further explained.
Previously, under the Y category security cover, Ganguly had three Special Branch policemen accompanying him, along with an equal number of law enforcement officers guarding his residence in Behala.
Currently, Ganguly is away, accompanying his team Delhi Daredevils, but he is expected to return to Kolkata on May 21. It is on this very day that he will commence receiving the enhanced Z category security, the official confirmed.
These people in Bengal are given highest security cover
In West Bengal, distinguished figures such as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Governor C V Ananda Bose, Trinamool Congress MP and national secretary Abhishek Banerjee, and ministers like Firhad Hakim and Moloy Ghatak enjoy Z Plus security, reflecting the importance placed on their safety.
Furthermore, it is noteworthy that Sukanta Majumdar, the President of the West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is also provided with Z Plus security, along with CISF protection.
