Margao: The foundation stone for the construction of a six-lane road overbridge (ROB) at Ravanfond, Margao will be laid on May 16.
Chief minister Pramod Sawant is expected to be present for the function and so is PWD minister Nilesh Cabral.
The ROB, including approach roads, will be constructed at a cost of Rs 54 crore. The function will also mark the launching of the first phase of improvement and widening of roads from Khareband bridge to Rawanfond circle via Daivadnya Bhavan and Power house circle to Victor Hospital.
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat along with officials of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) at a recent inspection of the site took stock of the ground work that has been carried out before execution of the project. GSIDC has already completed the tendering process for design and construction of the ROB and work orders issued. Tenders for improvement and widening of roads will be issued soon, it was informed.
The ROB project is expected to be completed within two years. The ROB will be constructed parallel to the one connecting Davorlim to the Quepem road.
“The condition of the bridge is not very safe. There are heavy pipes running along the bridge on both sides. The bridge was constructed by the Railways nearly 40-50 years ago. The construction of ROB had therefore become imperative,” Kamat had earlier said.
At a recent press briefing, Kamat said that he persuaded the CM to take up the work of the improvement and widening of roads leading to the Margao railway station.
