Nagpur: The city experienced the hottest day of this year on Sunday, with the maximum temperature soaring to 44.3 degree Celsius. This was 1.3 degrees above the normal mercury level.
The data of Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) Nagpur showed that Akola was the hottest in Vidarbha with a maximum temperature of 45.5 degree Celsius. It was closely followed by Amravati at 45.4 degree Celsius, and saw the highest departure of 3.8 degrees. The highest minimum temperature was also recorded at Akola at 28.6 degree Celsius.
As per El Dorado weather forecasting website, Akola and Amravati were the world’s 13th and 14th hottest cities respectively.
Most of the districts of Vidarbha saw a rise in their maximum as well as minimum temperatures.
On Sunday, the met department had issued heatwave warning for Nagpur, Akola, Wardha and Yavatmal. As per its forecast, the temperatures are expected to remain on the higher side for the next few days.
In its warning, the met department has advised citizens to staying indoors, especially between 12-3pm and keep hydrated. “Traditional remedies like onion salad and raw mango with salt and cumin can prevent heat stroke. If you feel dizzy or ill, see a doctor immediately,” it said.
The dos and don’ts add that in case a person is affected by sunstroke, pour water on the victim’s head and immediately give ORS or lemon juice, and take him to the nearest health centre.
