Will join opposition unity to fight BJP in 2024 polls: AIUDF

GUWAHATI: The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) on Sunday said the party has decided to join the opposition unity to fight against BJP in the 2024 general elections. The announcement came a day after the party president and Dhubri MP, Badruddin Ajmal, met Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar.
While addressing a press conference here in Guwahati, AIUDF general secretary (organising) Aminul Islam said, “We will join any anti-BJP force to oust the saffron party as no political party in India can do that alone at present. We all have to stand in unison to save democracy and the country.”
He said an AIUDF delegation, led by Ajmal, has met Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, deputy CM Tejaswi Yadav and Pawar, and all of them have offered a warm welcome to unitedly fight against BJP.
“From the beginning, we have been in the UPA, led by Congress. Now, our party has decided to join the opposition unity. All opposition parties in the country should come together on one platform, and we want to uproot BJP in 2024. We want that Congress should also take part in this opposition unity,” Islam said.
He added that AIUDF is currently the third-largest political party in the state assembly with 16 MLAs. “Congress has lost the public faith in Assam now. There is no question of joining hands with the Congress here. We have not had any talks with the the party regarding any alliance here in Assam for the ensuing Lok Sabha election. We were in alliance with Congress during the 2021 state assembly polls. People have seen what happened. However, if they come forward, we will talk,” he added.
Meanwhile, talking about the Karnataka assembly election results, he said BJP’s decline has started and similarly, the party will face defeat in the Lok Sabha election if the opposition parties fight unitedly.
