SASARAM: A 25-year-old nautch girl was allegedly shot dead by some unidentified youths while she was preparing for a dance performance during the 'tilak ceremony' at Kota village under Darigawn police station in Rohtas district on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Chandani Kumari, a resident of Banarasia village under Sasaram police station. However, unofficial sources said that the dancer was shot during the celebratory firing at the function.
According to a press release issued by Rohtas SP Vineet Kumar, raids are on to arrest Sandip Singh, father of the groom, who organised the dance programme, and the accused who shot the nautch girl. The incident took place when some unidentified youths forced their entry into the dressing room while she was readying herself for a dance. They got into an altercation with her team members over some issue and allegedly shot the dancer. She was rushed to Sasaram sadar hospital, where the doctors on duty declared her brought dead. After postmortem, the body was handed over to her family members.
The records of the district police revealed that celebratory firing during marriage functions continue to claim lives of guests, onlookers, and in some cases even of the grooms and brides.
Even after one year, the police have failed to trace the organiser, in whose house celebratory firing was reported during the performance of Haryana dancer Sapana Chaudhary at Nawadih village under Karakat police station of the district. An FIR against the organiser was registered by the then SHO Diwakar Singh in this connection, but in vein.
On November 19, 2021, a videographer had also lost his life and three others received serious bullet injuries during a celebratory firing at a marriage function in Kadawa village under Nokha police station of the district.
