Kanpur: A 55-year-old man was hacked to death at his house in Deen Dayal Puram, KDA Colony in the Bidhnu police area of the district on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
According to the information, unidentified assailants killed Sunil Verma, a private worker, by stabbing him to death with a sharp-edged weapon at his house.
The incident came to light on Sunday morning, when the police, on being informed by locals, reached the spot and recovered his body in one of the rooms of his house.
In-charge Bidhnu police station Satish Rathore rushed to the spot and started investigations. According to police, Sunil used to work at a plastic factory in Dada Nagar area of the city. "His body has been sent for the post-mortem and investigations are continuing to ascertain the motive behind the murder," Rathore further said.
However, locals of the area informed the investigators that on Saturday evening, his nephew Krishna, a resident of Barra, had visited his house with a girl. The nephew was spotted waiting outside the house as Sunil was not at home. Sunil had returned from the factory around 9 pm, after which Krishna went inside the house with the girl.
The incident came to light around 6 am on Sunday when an electrician came to take meter readings. “When he opened the door to take the reading, he saw the body of Sunil lying in a pool of blood on the ground in the front room,” the police sources said. On this, he informed the neighbours, who in turn alerted the police. Police said they are conducting raids by forming two teams in search of the man's nephew Krishna.
