New Aston Martin DB12 officially teased ahead of reveal
Aston Martin is almost ready to launch its successor to the DB11
The Aston Martin DB11 launched back in 2016 so a replacement has been on the cards for a while. We’ve seen the new DB12 testing multiple times but now Aston Martin has confirmed a release date of 24 May for its next grand tourer.
These new official images confirm a few design details of the DB12 previously hidden by test cars’ camouflage. The headlight shape is an evolution of the outgoing model’s, with three individual lights within the cluster. We can also see the traditional Aston Martin grille with five horizontal slats. A long bonnet features a few aggressive creases, plus a pair of air vents.
The side profile shot reveals the DB11’s air vent that flows out of the front wheel arch will be carried over and Aston Martin will use flush-fitting door handles for the DB12. This show car is finished in green with huge gold alloys - covering some rather large brake discs. Previous spy shots have revealed 21-inch wheels, C-shape rear lights and twin single-exit exhaust tips.
Aston Martin has also given us a glimpse of the interior too. A shot of the centre console reveals a screen with multiple functions such as climate, navigation and smartphone connectivity. Beneath it we see a more old-school approach with plenty of physical switches and buttons for various interior controls.
As for the drivetrain, Aston Martin currently offers up a 600bhp 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12 or a 503bhp 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 from Mercedes. Aston Martin claimed in early 2022 that it will continue with V12-powered cars until 2026, so we expect both of the DB11’s powertrains to continue with the new model.
We believe the name of the new car to be ‘DB12’ because Aston Martin has filed a trademark application for it. An Aston Martin spokesperson told Auto Express that: “Aston Martin regularly files international trademark applications to protect names for possible future use”.
Aston Martin’s range currently consists of four cars, the DBX SUV, the entry-model Vantage, the range-topping DBS and the DB11. The DB11 is the oldest car in the lineup and when it replaced the DB9 it was the first Aston Martin to receive technology from the partnership with Mercedes-Benz.
