Jaipur: Complaints have continued to pour against the 27-year-old man arrested last week for allegedly conning over 50 women by befriending them on matrimonial websites.
DCP (East) Gyan Chand Yadav said that Syed Shah Khawar Ali, a resident of Ambala, was arrested on May 7 for a case filed against him by a woman at the Sanganer police station. He said that two more women complained about the accused. “The women said that the accused cheated them. They have not filed any case against him yet,” he said.
Police said that Ali befriended a woman in Jaipur on a matrimonial website by pretending to be a leading lawyer of the Delhi High Court and the apex court. On April 27, the accused travelled to Jaipur to meet her.
He left after stealing her gold jewellery and an expensive watch. The woman told police that she had begun talking to the accused about two months ago. Police constituted a special team that found Ali was no ordinary thief, but a skilled swindler.
“Our primary investigation suggests the accused had posted his profile on different matrimonial websites. He would pose as a leading lawyer or a businessman operating from Singapore on these sites. He targeted rich women and fled with valuables on the pretext of meeting them,” said an official.
Jaipur police said the accused also sexually assaulted one of the women. “Delhi Police arrested the accused in 2020 for allegedly raping a woman who was looking for a groom on a matrimonial website. He raped the woman in a hotel and was arrested soon,” the official claimed.
Police said the accused blatantly lied to women about his education and successful career.
