After the Maharashtra government decided to continue with the 40 per cent property tax concession for residential properties in Pune, the municipal corporation on Monday started issuing revised bills, which have to be paid by July 15 to avail of an additional 10 per cent discount in the tax.
The civic administration has updated around 7 lakh property tax bills on its website. “The updating of property tax bills is going on and taxes of over half of them have been updated. The civic administration will be also dispatching the hard copies of the bills to each property. The owners should pay their taxes by July 15 to avail of the benefit of additional 10 per cent discount for advance payment while avoiding penalty charges thereafter,” said Ajeet Deshmukh, in charge of the property tax department.
The updating of all the bills will be completed by May-end and their hard copies dispatched to the owners, he said, adding that alerts would be issued to owners whose email addresses and mobile numbers are registered with the Pune Municipal Corporation.
The PMC has also appealed to the owners of residential properties who registered after 2019 and are paying full taxes to prove their occupancy by submitting documents to avail of the 40 per cent concession. “If the residential properties that are registered after 2019 are proved to be self-occupied by the owner, their excess payment in tax since 2019 will be adjusted in the next four years against their property tax,” Deshmukh said.
The rule applies to residential properties from the newly merged 23 villages that became part of the city last year, he added. Those who fail to prove their residential properties as self-occupied will lose the concession.
Municipal commissioner Vikram Kumar has directed the department to intensify the recovery of Rs 9,600-crore dues from defaulters and seal properties if the dues are not cleared.
