New Delhi: The Employees‘ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) added 17.31 lakh new workers under its scheme in March 2023, according to provisional payroll data released by the Ministry of Labour & Employment on Monday.

In addition, 19,000 new establishments have been registered under the social security umbrella of the ESIC, providing more coverage and ensuring the inclusion of more workers.

The data also revealed that the majority of new registrations were in the age group of 25 years and under, with 8.26 lakh employees, or 48% of the total added, belonging to this group.

Furthermore, the gender-wise analysis of payroll data in March 2023 showed that 3.36 lakh female members were enrolled, and 41 transgender employees were registered under the ESIC scheme, demonstrating the corporation’s commitment to delivering benefits to every section of society.

The payroll data is provisional since the data generation is a continuous exercise, the ministry said.

The ESIC scheme provides social security to workers in the organized sector, covering medical benefits, sickness, maternity, and other benefits.
