Defence Minister Rajnath Singh during the convocation ceremony of the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology asserted that he (Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister) is confident of the possibility of India becoming the world’s ‘Top Economy’ by 2047. While speaking at the event, Defence Minister said, “Under PM Modi's leadership India has dreamt of becoming a developed nation by 2047. As you all know that the size of India's economy in 2014 was at 10th position now we are standing in the top 5 positions. Many economists and experts have started to say that they cannot rule out the possibility of India being in the Top 3 economies and I am confident that if we move at the same pace then we cannot rule out the possibility of becoming the Top economy of the world by 2047. This dream will be possible if we can make full use of our capacities...” He further said, other than self-reliance India is also focusing on innovations for making the country’s economy strong. “To promote ‘Aatmanirbharta’ in defence and minimise imports by Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has approved ‘Fourth Positive Indigenisation List’ (PIL) of 928 strategically-important Line Replacement Units /Sub-systems/Spares and Components, including high-end materials and spares, with import substitution value worth Rs 715 crore…” said a press release shared by Defence Ministry on May 14.
