GHAZIABAD: An illegal sex determination racket has been busted in the Nandgram area and three persons have been arrested in the matter. Dr Bhavtosh Shankdhar, chief medical officer of Ghaziabad has filed a written complaint against the accused.
According to police, the accused are Savita Sharma, Balram Singh and Jitendra Kumar. Savita was suspected of carrying the illegal test at her residence.
After a tip-off about an illegal ultrasound centre in the area, the officials from the Ghaziabad health department and the ADM Gambhir Singh sent Anita (name changed) to Savita as a decoy.
After getting in touch with Savita, Anita was called by the former at her house in Nandgram on Saturday. "Her associates Balram and Jitendra were already present there and had brought the ultrasound machine to perform the test on Anita. After the test, when the two men moved out with the machine, cops arrested them red-handed," police said.
The officials at Nandgram police station said that all the accused have been arrested and the portable ultrasound machine has also been seized. It was procured by Balram Singh.
On March 3, in a similar joint raid with the district administration, the Ghaziabad health department had sealed an unauthorised ultrasound centre in Loni. During inspection, the team had found that the radiologist of the private centre had not visited the centre while six ultrasounds were already conducted by the untrained staff.
The centre was seized by Loni SDM and Nodal officer of PCPNDT Dr Charan Singh.
