MUMBAI: With CBSE class XII and ISC both showing a marginal drop in their performance compared to 2022, most will be waiting to see how the HSC results would play out in the state this year.
Some of the school and college principals, however, believe that it would not be far off the mark from its central boards' counterparts. If that happens, cut-offs may drop during degree college admissions. Many say that students have ample opportunities now, new-age courses, increased intake, to look forward to during this year's admission season.
Meanwhile, admissions to first-year junior colleges are likely to see a tough competition for arts and commerce in top colleges, with many ICSE schools recording an increase in numbers of 90% scorers. All eyes will now be on the SSC results, which will be the last one for the season, before the admission commences. For science, the top scorers may opt for integrated coaching closer home.
Some of the leading autonomous colleges will not fully rely on HSC scores for their admissions. This batch will be the first ones to opt for the four-year undergraduate degree recommended in the National Education Policy of 2020.
Principal Krutika Desai from Mithibai College said it is difficult to predict how the HSC results will turn out, but there is a possibility that it would be affected too, as the entire batch - across boards - is appearing for their first board exam this year. Agreeing with Desai, another principal said that these students spent some of their important academic years in class IX, X and almost half of XI learning and giving exams online, which is likely to have an impact on their class XII results.
Desai added that students need not worry as there are plenty of opportunities available in colleges this year. Several leading colleges have started innovative courses after getting autonomy and with the implementation of the NE, a lot of changes are expected too. Colleges, like St Xavier's and Jai Hind, will be giving weightage to board scores in addition to their entrance exams. N M and Mithibai colleges are using Common University Entrance Test scores.
