Major consumer price index (CPI) contributions to YoY change for clothing and footwear were 0.55 percentage points (pp) in March 2023 and 0.51 pp in April 2023, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) said in a press release.
The price development of energy and petrol had an upward effect on the inflation rate. In April, energy was 32.2 per cent cheaper than one year previously. In March, the YoY decrease amounted to 36.5 per cent. Petrol was 11.1 per cent cheaper in April than twelve months previously. In March, prices were 20.8 per cent lower. The effect of the excise duty reduction on motor fuels in April last year does no longer affect inflation from April 2023.
According to the European Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), consumer goods and services in the Netherlands were 5.8 per cent more expensive in April than in the same month last year, up from 4.5 per cent in March. Inflation in the euro area rose from 6.9 per cent in March to 7.0 per cent in April.
