Karnataka News Updates: Congress leader and AllIndia Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Karnataka, Randeep SinghSurjewala, on Sunday late night said that party chief Mallikarjun Khargewill not take long and announce the name of next chief minister ofKarnataka soon.
Speaking to reporters after a late-night meeting of newly electedCongress MLAs in Karnataka's Bengaluru, Surjewala said, "Partyleadership will take a decision. I can't replace my judgement withKharge Sahab's judgement. He is our senior, and as you all know him. Heis the son of the soil of Karnataka, and I'm sure he will not take verylong."
"The winning party will be in the first cabinet when we will implementour first five guarantees," he said while responding to a query on plansfor the oath-taking ceremony after the decision on the new CM ofKarnataka. The meeting was convened after Congress Legislature Party (CLP)unanimously passed a resolution authorising party president MallikarjunKharge to pick the name of the Karnataka Chief Minister.
"The CongressLegislature Party unanimously resolves that AICC President is herebyauthorised to appoint the new leader of the Congress Legislature Party,"the resolution stated. The meeting which started late on Sunday night at a hotel in Bengaluru,continued till 1.30 am. It was attended by all 135 newly elected MLAs.

UP teacher sent to jail for sexually assaulting 15 schoolgirls, 2 others booked
- A school principal and anassistant teacher have been booked while a computer teacher of agovernment school in a village in Tilhar in Shahjahanpur district hasbeen arrested for allegedly attempting to sexually assault 15 girlstudents, mostly Dalits, police said.All these minor students study in class 7 and 8.
- The principal and an assistant teacher have been booked for allegedlysupporting the accused computer teacher.
- All the three have been booked under sections 354 (attempt to outragethe modesty of a woman), 352 (punishment for assault or criminal force)and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC, along with relevant sectionsof the POCSO Act and the SC/ST Act.
- Basic Shiksha Adhikari, Kumar Gaurav, said, "The head teacher and theassistant teacher have been suspended with immediate effect, and adepartmental enquiry has also been ordered against them."

3 members of California family killed, 6 others hurt in crash on interstate east of Los Angeles
- Two children and one adult were killed and six other members of their family were injured when their SUV collided with a car on a Southern California highway early on Sunday, authorities said. The crash involving a Chevy Suburban and a Tesla sedan occurred shortly before 7:30 am on Interstate 10 in the Whitewater area near Palm Springs, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
- The Suburban carrying nine members of a family from Anaheim overturned after hitting the centre divider and at least six occupants were ejected, officials said.
- A 31-year-old woman and two girls, aged 10 and 12, were killed, ABC 7 reported.
- Three girls, aged 3, 7 and 11, and a 15-year-old boy were seriously hurt, while two adults had minor or moderate injuries, the TV station reported. The Tesla's sole occupant, a 31-year-old man from Indio, was not hurt.

Unable to pay ambulance fare, man travels 200 km by bus with son's body in bag in West Bengal
- A man in West Bengal after being unable to payhigh ambulance fare, was forced to carry his five-month old son's bodywrapped in a bag by bus from Siliguri (Darjelling district) to Kaliaganj(North Dinajpur district) travelling a total distance of around 200kilometre.The journey of ultimate Buzkashi of humanity started from Saturday nightfrom the bus stand of Siliguri ended at Kaliaganj on Sunday afternoon,with the father himself narrating his pain-stricken journey with hisson's body.

Spurious liquor kills 10 people in Tamil Nadu, many hospitalised
- As many as 10 peopleincluding three women died allegedly after consuming spurious liquor inVillupuram and Chengalpattu districts of Tamil Nadu, officials said onSunday. Six people hailing from Ekkiyarkuppam near Marakkanam in Villupuramdistrict died on Sunday.
- In Maduranthagam in Chengalpattu district, twopersons died on Friday and a couple died on Sunday, all caused due toillicit liquor consumption, officials said. "Currently, more than two dozen people are undergoing treatment and aresaid to be doing well," they said further.
Pakistan's military establishment plans to keep me in jail for 10 years under sedition charges: Imran Khan
- Pakistan's former prime minister Imran Khan claimed on Monday that the country's powerful military establishment has planned to keep him in jail for the next 10 years under sedition charges.
- In a series of tweets in the early hours of Monday, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief said: "So now the complete London plan is out. Using pretext of violence while I was inside the jail, they have assumed the role of judge, jury and executioner. The plan now is to humiliate me by putting Bushra begum (Khan's wife) in jail, and using some sedition law to keep me inside for next ten years."
- The tweets came after Khan held a meeting of PTI leaders at his Lahore residence.
- The 70-year-old leader, who has been on bail in more than 100 cases, further said: "To ensure that there is no public reaction, they have done two things -- first deliberate terror is unleashed not just on PTI workers but on common citizens as well. Second, the media is totally controlled and muzzled."
- He said never has the sanctity of chadar and chaar dewaari been violated the way it is being done by these "criminals".
Gold worth Rs 1.9 crore seized at Coimbatore Airport, two held
- Directorate of RevenueIntelligence (DRI) seized 3.03 kg of foreign-origin gold worth Rs 1.9crore from four passengers arriving from Sharjah to Coimbatore onSunday, officials said on Sunday.
- On prior information, DRI officials intercepted 4 passengers fromSharjah to Coimbatore Airport, on being searched for 3.03 kg offoreign-origin gold valued at approx.
- Rs.1.9 crores were recovered fromtheir possession. Following the recovery 2 passengers Jiyavudeen (27) and Sheik Mohamed(31) was arrested. Further probe is underway, said an official.
