LUCKNOW: Passengers travelling between Lucknow and the national capital are facing significant delays of up to four hours due to ongoing track maintenance between the Moradabad-Shahjahanpur section. This maintenance work has caused considerable inconvenience to commuters.
On Monday, popular trains such as Lucknow Mail (12230) and New Delhi-Lucknow AC Superfast Express (12430) arrived in Lucknow four hours behind schedule, leaving many passengers infuriated.
Ankur Tiwari, a resident of Lucknow who was traveling with his family in the 3AC (economy) coach of Lucknow Mail from the national capital, expressed his frustration, stating, "The train made prolonged stops at intermediate stations where even packaged drinking water was unavailable. Additionally, the air conditioning in the coach was not functioning properly, and there was no Ticket Examiner (TTE) available to address our complaints. It was extremely challenging to travel in such conditions, especially with young children."
According to railway officials, the delays are a result of power and traffic blocks required for the removal of existing girders on the Moradabad-Shahjahanpur section. As a precautionary measure, trains are being operated with caution. The track maintenance work is expected to be completed by May 23.
As a consequence of the ongoing maintenance, a total of 18 trains have been canceled, seven have been diverted, four have been rescheduled, and two have been terminated early.
Railway officials have urged passengers to utilize grievance redressal portals such as dialing 139 and RailMadad in case of emergencies or to seek assistance during their journey.
The 12229 Lucknow Mail and 12429 Lucknow-New Delhi AC Superfast Express also arrived in New Delhi four hours behind schedule on Sunday morning.
Similarly, the Chandigarh-Lucknow Express (12232) arrived in Lucknow on Monday morning, facing a delay of nearly five hours. Numerous other trains have also experienced significant delays.
