GURGAON: The city on Saturday continued to witness hot and dry weather conditions as the maximum temperature was recorded at 41.7 degrees Celsius — two notches above normal.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 42.5 degrees Celsius on Friday, which was the season’s hottest day so far. Saturday saw warm winds with a speed up to 15kmph during the day. The minimum temperature at IMD observatory was not recorded on Saturday.
Though thunderstorm and dust storm along with isolated showers are likely in parts of southern Haryana, the maximum temperature will stay above 40 degrees Celsius in upcoming days, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
An IMD official said the maximum temperature will rise by 2 degrees Celsius during the next 48 hours and thereafter no significant change will be seen. “The weather conditions have been dry and clear for the past few days across the state causing an increase in the temperature. Dust storms and thunderstorms are likely on Sunday with a possibility of isolated rainfall. On May 16 and 17, there are chances of light- to-moderate showers at isolated places. However, there will be no major relief and mercury level will stay around 40 degrees Celsius,” the IMD official said.
Sunday will be partly cloudy, with minimum and maximum temperatures expected to hover around 25 and 43 degrees Celsius, respectively. The city’s air quality index deteriorated within the poor category on Saturday. The overall AQI reading was at 270 as compared to 210 on the previous day.
Meanwhile in Delhi, there was a slight decline in maximum temperature which was recorded at 41.8 degrees Celsius on Saturday even though it remained above normal for the second consecutive day.
The daytime temperature was 42.5 degrees Celsius on Friday — the hottest day of the year so far. It is likely to hover around 42 degrees for the next two days.
