VADODARA: A three-day-old girl who was admitted to the SSG Hospital (SSGH) in the city died on Saturday morning after she had been accidentally fed poison by her sister. The incident took place in the Kantu village of Ghoghamba taluka in Panchmahal district.
The five-year-old girl was alone at her residence with her infant sister on May 3. She reportedly put the poisonous substance used by the family to kill ants in the mouth of the infant who took seriously ill immediately.
According to sources in the SSGH, the infant was initially rushed to a hospital in Godhra on May 3. However, as her condition was serious, she was brought to the SSGH on May 4 and was being treated here. The infant’s condition remained serious during the treatment and eventually succumbed on Saturday.
According to an official in the Damavav police station in Panchmahal under whose precincts the incident took place, the mother of the deceased infant had pain in the abdomen on the day of the incident. The official said that the mother and father went to the hospital leaving the infant behind with her elder sister.
The official added that a powder used to kill ants was lying in the house. He added that the elder sister took the container and put some powder from it in the mouth of the infant.
