The much anticipated Karnataka Assembly Elections are now over. The elections saw Indian National Congress make a clean sweep by securing the absolute majority with over 130 seats. But democratic India's carnivalesque elections are far from over for 2023.
The all-out campaign, the fierce intent to win or retain power, the political jibes, the mud-slinging, promises and some more are all set to repeat itself at least five more times this year.
The northeastern states of Nagaland, Tripura and Meghalaya were the first to have assembly polls in 2023.
Legislative Assembly elections have been bestowed with more-than-ever importance as the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections draw close. The state assembly elections are being helmed as determinant precursors to the General Elections that will decide the fate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP government at the centre.
Notably, PM Modi has been in the prime position of governance for India since 2014.
Here's taking a look at the assembly elections yet to take place in 2023
-Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram would go for polls this year.
-Mizoram--Term of state's 40 member assembly ends on 17 December, 2023
Chhattisgarh--Term of state's 90 member assembly ends on 3 January, 2024
Madhya Pradesh--Term of state's 230 member assembly ends on 6 January, 2024
Rajasthan--Term of state's 200 members assembly ends on 14 January, 2024
Telangana--Term of state's 119 member assembly ends on 16 January, 2024
-The last part of 2023 would witness a series of assembly polls with terms of legislative assemblies of Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh ending on different dates in December this year.
-Rajasthan and Telangana legislative assemblies' terms end on different dates in January 2024.
-Polls in these five states being held together cannot be ruled out at this stage
-Assembly elections in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir can also not be ruled out this year.
-Reports had earlier stated that elections in Jammu and Kashmir may be held in the summer of 2023 after winter conditions subside
-The terms of the legislative assemblies of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Odisha are ending on different dates in June next year.
-Since Lok Sabha polls are usually held in April-May, there is a likelihood that assembly elections in the three states could be held simultaneously with the parliamentary exercise.
