Poor garbage collection irks Cortalim

Vasco: The gram sabha meeting of the Cortalim village panchayat witnessed noisy scenes on Sunday over the failure of the village panchayat to have garbage collected regularly. The gram sabha members have alleged that the contractor who has been engaged to collect garbage from the village by the panchayat body is not doing a proper job.
Cortalim sarpanch Senia Pereira, however, rejected the allegations and said that the panchayat is spending a lot on the daily collection of dry and wet garbage. Pereira also said that the panchayat is focused on providing time-bound services, based on the complaints received by the panchayat body. The sarpanch said that a garbage-collection strategy will be devised in the next meeting.
