Groom beaten up for opposing eve-teasing in Bhojpur district

ARA: A 21-year-old bridegroom was badly beaten up by hooligans for opposing eve-teasing of girls during his ‘baraat’ procession at Khalisa village under Udwantnagar police station in Bhojpur district on Friday night.
The victim, Aman Kumar Paswan, became unconscious due to the thrashing and was rushed to Ara sadar hospital for treatment. Bride's family members also reached the hospital to enquire about the health of the bridegroom.
The incident took place when the marriage procession was on way to Jogta village under Chandi police station in the district. “As soon as the baraat started moving, some boys began eve-teasing girls and pulling their stoles while they were dancing in the marriage procession. When the bridegroom opposed it, they thrashed him badly,” said Meena Devi, aunt of Aman, a resident of Khalisa village. He was to get married to Gudiya Kumari of Jogta village.
“The ritual of 'parichhawan', which is done before setting off for the bride's house, was taking place. While girls were dancing in the marriage procession when some boys of the same village started eve-teasing them. When the bridegroom opposed it, the hooligans beat him up,” said Meena.
SHO of Udwantnagar police station, Awadhesh Kumar told this newspaper on Saturday: "We have received the information regarding an altercation between the two groups during the baraat at Khalisa village. Prima facie it seems that the incident took place due to an old dispute. Though, no complaint has been lodged by any side with the police, we are investigating the incident at our own level and trying to nab the culprits.”
