Premier League title race: When can Manchester City win title?

Manchester City are one win away from a third successive Premier League title.

Pep Guardiola's side won 3-0 at Everton on Sunday afternoon to go four points clear before Arsenal were beaten 3-0 by Brighton.

So when can Manchester City win the league?

Well, they might do it without kicking another ball.

Arsenal play Nottingham Forest on Saturday (17:30 BST) and a defeat would see City crowned champions for the fifth time in six seasons.

Regardless of that result City will win the league - their seventh Premier League success - with victory over Chelsea on Sunday (16:00 BST).

Speaking after their win, and before Arsenal's defeat, Guardiola told Sky Sports: "We've done our duty by beating them at the Etihad. Both teams have had an exceptional season. It was good to win between the Real Madrid games."

Talking to Sky Sports after their defeat Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard said: "Yeah it feels like that [whether the title is over]. It is going to be very difficult now we have to be honest. It is tough to take.

"It is not a good feeling at the moment. It feels like there is no hope now."

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta told Sky Sports: "Mathematically, it's still possible, but today it's impossible to think about it. We need to digest the result and the performance in the second half, understand why and have a different reaction."

Guardiola's side also have a superior goal difference - 61 to Arsenal's 41 - and have won 16 of their past 18 games in all competitions, scoring 56 goals and conceding only nine.

Only one team has ever had 69 points with 10 games remaining - as Arsenal did - and failed to win the title. That was Liverpool in 2018-19, when they finished on 97 points, one behind City.

While the Gunners only have the league to focus on, City are still in the hunt for the FA Cup and Champions League, and have a packed schedule until the end of the season with as many as five games still to play.

Only one team has accomplished the Treble before in English football, Manchester United in 1998-99.
