Will the Celtics Keep Momentum and Win Game 7?
Earning the type of win that the Boston Celtics did in Game 6 should be more than enough to prove they've got what it takes to win Game 7. Jayson Tatum was effectively a non-factor throughout much of the game, only to turn it on in the fourth. His 16-point fourth quarter got off to a roaring start when he pulled up from deep, shooting over the outstretched hand of Joel Embiid and draining the shot.
Aside from Tatum and Jaylen Brown –who's been an efficient scorer this series– one player to keep an eye on is Al Horford. Throughout most of their run-ins, Horford has played tough defense on Joel Embiid, while turning around and hitting backbreaking threes against the Sixers. In this series, however, Horford has struggled from beyond the arc, where he's shooting a woeful 25.7%. Interestingly enough, his best game from beyond the arc came in Philadelphia in Game 3, where he went 5-7 from beyond the arc. Whether or not he'll be able to replicate that effort in Game 7 remains to be seen, but if he's able to connect on at least one three-pointer, it'll put just enough doubt in the Sixers' collective head and force their bigs to track Horford out to the arc.
Sixers Need an MVP Performance From Joel Embiid
In what will come as no surprise, the Sixers' entire playoff hopes will land on the shoulders of Joel Embiid. While it's true that he'll need help from his supporting cast, especially former MVP James Harden, the Sixers' offense runs through the big man. His MVP case was helped this season in large part by leading the league in scoring with 33.1 points per game.
In this series, Embiid is averaging 27.6 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 3.2 blocks per game. He's scored 30+ points in three of the five games he's played in. If the Sixers are to have any shot of winning Game 7 on the road, they'll need Embiid to put up 30+ points, control the paint defensively and get to the free throw line. This could be a defining moment in his career, as he has the chance to finally take down the Celtics in the postseason.
