Girl's death sparks mob fury, Nalanda policemen attacked

BIHARSHARIF: Angry over the death of a girl student on Friday night, residents of Bhat Bigha village under Hilas police station in Nalanda district, blocked the Noorsarai-Hilsa road for over three hours on Saturday.
However, when the police personnel went to the protest site to remove the blockade they attacked them with bamboo sticks and stones. The villagers had blocked the road, demanding compensation to the family of the deceased.
According to police, many policemen sustained injuries in the incident. Hilsa SDPO Krishna Murari, who visited the place of occurrence on Saturday, said the unruly mob attacked policemen when they went to request them to lift the blockage.
The SDPO said an investigation into the death of girl student was underway after a complaint was lodged by the brother of the deceased. "Action is also being taken against those found involved in attackingcops," he said.
A 16-year-old class XI student, Nisha Kumari, a resident of village Bhat Bigha under Hilsa police station, had sustained head injuries after falling from her bicycle near Hathkatta Mor under Chandi police station area, when she was on her way to her school on May 10. The critically injured girl was referred to PMCH after first aid at Hilsa referral hospital. However, she succumbed to her injuries on Friday night during the treatment.
