Karnataka elections: From PM, a thank you & congrats
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated Congress for its win in Karnataka assembly polls and wished the party best in its endeavour to fulfil people's aspirations.
"I thank all those who have supported us in the Karnataka elections. I appreciate the hard work of BJP Karyakartas. We shall serve Karnataka with even more vigour in the times to come," he said in another tweet. Home minister Amit Shah said BJP under the leadership of Modi will continue to strive for the welfare and development of the people of Karnataka. "My sincere gratitude to the people of Karnataka for giving BJP opportunity to serve them for so many years," he added.
Former chief minister B S Yediyurappa said the assembly election results will have no bearing on the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Appealing to party workers not to panic by the Karnataka verdict, he said BJP will introspect the reasons behind its defeat.
Outgoing chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said he took full responsibility for BJP's defeat in the assembly elections, and that the party would function as a responsible opposition in the days to come. He said Congress' "much organised" election strategy might have been one of the major reasons for its win in the state.
"We are a national party and will make all the necessary preparations organisationally and administratively to win the Lok Sabha elections by rectifying our mistakes," he said.
